Clay County allocates anticipated $1.4M in opioid abatement funds to paramedicine, behavioral health and jail MAT

The Clay County Board of County Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve three project proposals to receive year three of Lutheran Services opioid abatement funding, staff said Tuesday.
Grants staff told commissioners the county anticipates approximately $1,400,000 in funds and recommended distributing the money across three locally administered programs: continued support for Clay County Paramedicineto staff a 24-hour response truck; support for Clay Behavioral Health Center's coordinated opioid recovery program (CORE); and support for the Clay County Jail's medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program.
Megan Covey of the grants department presented the proposals and said the county will prepare funding agreements and return with a continuing resolution to allow the county manager to execute the documents. Representatives from Clay Behavioral Health and the Clay County Sheriff's Office attended the meeting to answer commissioner questions.
During discussion, a Clay Behavioral Health representative, identified in the meeting as Irene, said a previously funded paramedicine location at a Middleburg Winn-Dixie had been vacated after utilization declined; the paramedicine service has transitioned to mobile operations. County staff said the treatment center work is funded from a different funding stream and will continue.
A motion to approve the three substance use disorder abatement projects passed by voice vote, recorded as 4-0 in favor.

Staff will execute funding agreements under a continuing resolution and return with any required contract documents. The board did not change project scopes at Tuesday's meeting.
