EDAC members discussed coordination with the Golf Course Advisory Committee on events and fundraising at the Lago Vista golf course, including sponsorship signage, adopt-a-hole ideas and a proposed hole-in-one contest to raise funds for local initiatives.
Committee members said they plan to meet with golf-course management (a meeting with a staff member named Greg was scheduled) to flesh out proposals for events such as music on the greens, adopt-a-hole sponsorships and charity tournaments. One EDAC member proposed charging a small entry fee — the discussion used $5 per player as an example — and buying an insurance policy that would cover a $5,000 hole-in-one prize if a player succeeded; the insurance would be offset by entry fees and sponsorships.
Members discussed modest startup costs such as a camera for the clubhouse and signage; one participant estimated modern camera equipment as relatively inexpensive (discussed figures around $300 for a camera) and described the hole-in-one prize being insured so taxpayers would not bear the cost. The committee also discussed offering local business perks to participants (examples mentioned included dinner vouchers or discounts) and selling sponsorships for tee-box signage on a rotating basis.
EDAC members asked staff to coordinate with Justin and with the golf-course advisory representatives; no formal budget allocation or final commitment was made at the meeting. Members described the idea as low-cost to the city if structured with sponsor revenue and insurance coverage for prize payouts.
