Arlington ISD held two public hearings June 5 on the district's Optional Flexible School Day program (OFSDP) for the 2024–25 and proposed 2025–26 school years. No public speakers were registered for either hearing.
Barry Fox, the district's executive director of transformational learning, summarized program use during 2024–25 and plans for 2025–26. Fox said 106 students at Arlington Collegiate High School and 91 students at Arlington Collegiate and Career High School participated as flexible-attendant students in 2024–25. He said about 30 Venture High School students were enrolled as flexible-attendant students and graduated at various times during the year.
Fox described the OFSDP's purpose and eligibility: it may be used for grades 9–12 students at risk of dropping out, those in approved early-college programs, students at state-approved innovative redesign schools or students who require alternate academic routes because of attendance-related credit denials. He explained the program allows instruction during nontraditional hours — including evening and Saturday classes — and can permit funding based on actual attendance time, with the district able to record attendance as low as 45 minutes a day up to a maximum of 10 hours a day.
With no registered public speakers, the board closed both hearings after the presentations and recorded no public comment on the program.
