At the start of the June 3 meeting, a library representative told the council the city's summer-reading program is underway after a kickoff event that drew several hundred people.
Maggie Mills said participants who complete reading and other literacy activities receive a free book and can enter prize drawings. She highlighted upcoming events: a puppet show at 11 a.m. on Friday, beginner crocheting next Thursday, a petting zoo scheduled for Thursday, June 12 at 11 a.m. featuring reptiles, exotic animals and farm animals, and a Mad Science program later in the month.
The mayor thanked Mills for the update and asked if there were any additional comments submitted online; staff said there were none. The public comment period was then closed.
Mills' announcements were presented during the citizen comment portion of the meeting; no council action was required.
