The project team recommended the split because “there is enough work that needs to be done on some of the special inspections for the first part of the project,” the administrator told the Butler County Board of Commissioners. The administrator also proposed scheduling a groundbreaking in mid‑to‑late July, suggesting that the board hold its Butler County Fair meeting July 22 at the fairgrounds and then convene a special meeting on the Princeton campus for a ceremony before contractors mobilize.
Commissioners expressed informal support for the plan and for holding a groundbreaking, but no vote or formal authorization to advertise was taken at the June 3 meeting. Commissioners discussed logistical items such as hard hats and shovels for a ceremony; the administrator said staff would follow up on scheduling and logistics. The administrator said staff will bring an advertising request for bid package 1 to the commissioners at the next meeting for formal consideration.
If the board approves advertising at a subsequent meeting, staff expects a roughly one‑month procurement window and contractor start in early August, according to the administrator. The project remains at the procurement and contracting phase; the county did not adopt any binding contract or construction budget at the June 3 meeting.
Next steps: staff will prepare the formal request to advertise bid package 1 for the commissioners’ consideration at a future meeting and will return with logistics and a proposed date for a groundbreaking ceremony.
