Ravena reports sedimentation basin work and routine water repairs; splash pad nearing completion

At the June 3 meeting, Ravena Village officials reported active work on several public-works fronts: construction has begun on a sedimentation basin at the water treatment plant, crews flushed hydrants on the low-service side, and contractors repaired two water breaks linked to hydrant flushing.

The village’s foreman, Lee Vanetten, reported that Flak Construction (the bidder awarded the contract) has started work on the sedimentation basin project, which officials described as a significant effort to improve the village’s ability to filter and process water. Vanetten also said the plant's storage tanks were cleaned and that crews performed mowing, service-line flushing and repairs on Fourth and Dock streets.

Dr. Joe Burns, a building department official, and Inspector Curtis were cited in the building department report for conducting inspections; Burns is scheduled to attend a related court appearance on June 12 regarding a stop-work order. The building department reported 11 permits issued in May.

Public-works crews also reported finishing nearly all work on a new park backstop at Mosier Park, cleaning the Veterans Memorial on Main Street and installing Boulevard of Honor flags. Village staff said the splash pad is "99% done," requiring only initial start-up and tuning.

Officials noted routine issues tied to the seasonal hydrant maintenance: a water break on Dock Street and another on Fourth Street in the Town of Coeymans occurred, likely related to hydrant flushing and heavy rain washing away pipe support. The DPW also assisted neighboring municipalities with road sweeping and paving prep.
