Board member Mr. Thielen, who presented the item, said the code of conduct had been pulled from the agenda at a prior meeting to ensure conformity with Policy 5301, but the board opted to advance a version consistent with the code of conduct while continuing work on the broader Policy 5301. "This allows us to get the code of conduct out while we continue to work on 5301," Thielen said.
Because the item came from committee, Thielen indicated no second was required. The board approved the second reading by roll call; the vote was recorded as nine ayes.
The board noted the code is intended to be less prescriptive than the accompanying policy while maintaining consistent disciplinary principles. No amendments were recorded on second reading. The district will proceed with publication and distribution of the code of conduct in the coming weeks.
The board will continue deliberations on Policy 5301 (student dress and related protections) separately.
