Kathleen Pratt was selected to fill a vacancy on the Gettysburg Area School District board during the district's public meeting. A board member moved to nominate Pratt, the nomination was seconded, and a roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval.
The appointment came after the board interviewed three candidates earlier in the meeting. After the vote the board congratulated Pratt and administered an oath; Pratt took the seat next to Michelle Smith Myers.
Board members and leadership acknowledged the applicants' willingness to participate in the process. “It takes some strong character to come in here and go through the process,” said Jason, a board member, thanking the candidates for applying and congratulating Pratt. The meeting record shows no public comments on the vacancy before the vote.
The formal motion to appoint Pratt was moved and seconded and approved by roll call. The vote included board members Al, Ryan, Tim, Mike, Alice, Michelle Smith Myers and Kathleen Pratt (yes). The board noted that other routine business would proceed after the appointment and that Pratt would be sworn in during the same meeting.
The board did not cite any statutory authority in making the appointment during the recorded discussion. The appointment fills the open director seat; the minutes will show the official record of the motion and the roll-call votes.
