Broken Arrow holds public hearing on proposed $455 million FY2026 budget

The Broken Arrow City Council held a public hearing June 2 on the proposed fiscal year 2026 municipal budget, a $455,000,000 package that City officials said is 3.44% smaller than last year’s budget.

Vice Mayor Johnny Parks, who discussed the item on the City of Broken Arrow’s “City Council Rewind” program, said the municipal budget is the council’s most important annual responsibility. “If you go to the city council handbook statewide, it will tell you that this is the most important item that a councilman does,” Parks said.

The proposal presented to the council is divided into three broad areas: operations, capital and debt service. City staff held a work session in late May and presented the budget to the council at the June 2 meeting as part of the legally required review and public hearing process. City Manager Michael Spurgeon prepared the document and answered council questions during earlier sessions, according to Parks.

City officials said the June 2 hearing is one step in the timeline: the council conducted a work session in late May, held the public hearing on June 2 and expects final adoption at the June 16 meeting so the budget can take effect July 1. Parks emphasized the staff’s effort to produce a clear budget and avoid midyear adjustments.
