Huron School District to receive $1.44 million in Title I funds; instructional leaders to open new positions

The Huron School District will receive $1,437,818 in Title I, Part A funds for the 2025–26 school year, Superintendent Dr. Steinhoff told the Huron Board of Education at its May 27 special meeting. That amount compares with a 2024–25 allocation of $826,953, he said.
"We received notification last week from the South Dakota Department of Education that our allocation for the 25–26 Title I, Part A funds will be $1,437,818, and this compares to the 24–25 allocation of $826,953," Superintendent Dr. Steinhoff said. Instructional leaders met to plan for using the additional funding and the district anticipates posting several positions in the coming weeks to support Title I programming.
Dr. Steinhoff also read a thank-you letter from Northern State University acknowledging the district’s partnership in hosting teacher candidates from the Millicent Atkins School of Education for a range of field experiences during the school year. The letter, signed by university faculty, thanked Huron for hosting placements that included pre-admission field experiences, residencies and student teaching slots.
In the superintendent’s celebrations and reports portion of the meeting, Dr. Steinhoff recognized student athletic achievements and several community contributions: the Huron Area Education FCU provided candy for end-of-year activities; the Elwine family donated root beer for a first-grade science day; South Dakota State University, Lake Area Technical College and Mitchell Technical College hosted eighth-grade college visits; Delta Dental provided dental services during a 10-day visit that served 56 students and provided $58,000 in completed dental work; and Dairy Queen offered free blizzards for teacher appreciation week.
The superintendent’s office did not provide a lineup of specific positions to be opened in the meeting record; staff said those openings will be announced as planning concludes.
