Chief finance and operations officer Jill Minnick explained the current cameras are beyond their useful life and pose security and FERPA compliance concerns. The recommended purchase — to be procured through cooperative consortium pricing — would replace cameras, handle installation and integrate the new devices with the district’s secure camera server system. Minnick said the total not‑to‑exceed cost is $73,600.57 and that the district plans to fund the purchase from the state 31AA mental health and school safety allocation.
Board members at the finance and operations committee had discussed operational details in advance, including a safeguard that cameras in educational instructional spaces would provide live viewing but would not be set up to record instructional classrooms, Treasurer Patrick Kehoe noted. Student co‑chair Josh Patterson and other board members asked no substantive questions during the first reading. Because this was a first reading the board did not vote; the item will return for final action in a future meeting if recommended.
