Sewanhaka Central High School District voters approved the district’s 2025-26 budget and a new capital reserve fund in a May 20 referendum, the superintendent told the board at its May 27 meeting.
"On May 20, the taxpayers of this district approved the budget by a vote of 3,028 yes to 1,488 no," the superintendent said, adding that the vote also authorized creation of a 2025 capital reserve fund.
District officials said the approved budget will allow the schools to continue current course offerings, including virtual enterprise, AP computer science, AP capstone and research, medical assisting and other career and Advanced Placement courses. The superintendent said the capital reserve will help the district implement items from a five-year capital plan and fund improvements to classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums and athletic fields.
The superintendent thanked parents and voters for their support and noted the vote preserves extracurricular and curricular programs such as music, arts, model United Nations, science research and athletics that district officials said enrich students’ middle- and high-school experiences.
Board members did not take a separate, formal board roll-call vote on the budget at the meeting because the measure was decided by a public referendum on May 20. The superintendent and board representatives said district staff will now proceed with planning projects that rely on the new capital reserve and approved budget.
