Boca Raton approves police-services agreement as FIFA Club World Cup team base camp city

The Boca Raton City Council voted unanimously May 27 to recognize the city as a team base camp for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and to authorize a reimbursable police services agreement with the tournament organizer.
City Manager Brown told the council that FIFA has designated Boca Raton as a team base camp city and that the attached agreement with FWC 2026 U.S., Inc., covers police and public-safety support for players, staff and VIPs while they are in or transiting through the city. “The attached agreement provides the scope of services that would be undertaken by the police department and provides for full reimbursement,” Brown said. He also noted a scrivener’s error in the draft resolution; staff recommended correcting the reference on page three, line eight, to read “section 3.”
Why it matters: The designation means visiting teams will be based in Boca Raton during part of the international tournament, and the city will provide police and security support under a reimbursable contract. Council members asked about staffing and costs; Brown said the city and outside agencies have worked extensively with the organizer and that FIFA will reimburse the city's costs at or above the going rate.
Council action: With no public comment, a council member moved and another seconded adoption of the resolution with the scrivener’s correction. The vote was 5–0 in favor: Singer — yes; Drucker — yes; Thompson — yes; Nacklis — yes; Wigter — yes.
The mayor noted the benefit to Lynn University as a host and said the designation would generate prestige for the city. The resolution authorizes the city manager and city clerk to execute the police-services agreement and becomes effective as stated in the document.
