Farmer urges countywide unit road system as residents describe declining road maintenance

At the San Patricio County Commissioners Court meeting on May 27, farmer Travis Adams urged commissioners to adopt a countywide unit road system, arguing the current commissioner-based precinct model cannot maintain all roads equitably.
Adams, who said he has farmed in western San Patricio County for 60 years, told the court that older residents once expected every citizen to live on a paved county road but that maintenance has declined in the past 10 to 15 years. He recommended a unit road system so a centralized road-maintenance organization would treat road segments uniformly and reduce perceived favoritism.
Road-and-bridge staff reported ongoing maintenance work across precincts including silcoating of County Roads 1392 and 1372, silcoating on 1617 and 1618, culvert installation on County Road 798, brush pickup and mowing in the Saint Paul and West Sinton areas, street-sign installation in Saint Paul, patching on County Roads 1038, 10704 and 1030, and road processing in the Edroy area. Precinct 1 crews were reported to be working along US-69 and preparing work on FM-62 and another route; staff reminded the public to slow down near active crews and flaggers.
No formal action on the unit road proposal was taken at the meeting; Adams asked for commissioners' support and urged the court to consider centralizing road maintenance.
