Grimes County approves sale of former County Clerk building to Anderson and accepts bid for Becker House

The Commissioners Court approved the sale of the former County Clerk building at 101 South Main in Anderson to the town of Anderson for $220,000 and authorized sale of the Becker House (225 Fanthorpe Street) to the highest bidder for $361,115.06; the Fanthorpe proceeds will go to the county historical commission (Fund 37).
The Grimes County Commissioners Court approved the sale of two county-owned properties in Anderson, Texas, and authorized county officials to complete the closings.
County Judge Joe Pfau moved that Grimes County sell the former county clerk’s building at 101 South Main Street in Anderson to the town of Anderson for a one-time payment of $220,000. The court voted in favor of the motion; Judge Pfau was named as the mover on the motion and Commissioner David Tullis seconded it. The court authorized the county judge to execute any documents necessary to effect the closing and noted the negotiation had been handled by the county attorney.
On a separate vote, the court accepted a sealed bid of $361,115.06 for 225 Fanthorpe Street (the Becker House). A commissioner moved to authorize the sale to the highest bidder, authorize the county attorney to request a survey and negotiate the contract with that bidder, and authorize the county judge to execute closing documents. The motion was seconded and the court carried the motion. Commissioners confirmed proceeds from the Fanthorpe sale will be deposited to Fund 37, the historical commission’s account.
Both sales were discussed in open session after a closed executive session on real property deliberations conducted under Texas Government Code Section 551.072. The court approved the sales by voice votes and directed staff and the county attorney to complete required closing steps.
