The Columbus City Council on May 19 approved a special designated liquor license for Barrel House to hold Pickle Fest on Saturday, June 14, in downtown Columbus.
Nicole Sawfeld, speaking for Barrel House and the nonprofit Columbus In Action, described Pickle Fest as an all-ages fundraiser with over 40 vendor spaces, live music (including polka and bluegrass), a pickleball tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m., and food and craft vendors scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Organizers asked to close the street in front of Barrel House and an alley, citing prior successful street closures for other downtown events.
Sawvfeld said the event has strong online interest and that proceeds will support theater restoration efforts and other community projects. Council members approved the application on a motion and second; one council member voted no and the motion passed.
Organizers said the event could expand to two days in future years if the initial event is successful. The council did not record special conditions beyond the standard approval process; event organizers should coordinate final permitting and street-closure logistics with city staff.
