Hampton Bays notes Hospitality Academy grant, Tanger donation and custodian retirement

District staff told the Hampton Bays Union Free School District board on Feb. 11 the district has received or will receive several program grants and personnel notices.
Mr. Kledson said the district was approved for a $50,000 grant from the Southern County Department of Labor to run the fourth annual Hospitality Academy, facilitated by Mr. Ferraro with Ms. Meyer and Mr. Bean. "This is pre funding the grant. So we have been approved at a $50,000 grant to run the fourth annual hospitality academy," he said, and the program will run from Feb. 27 and culminate in a job fair on April 5.
A separate donation of $600 from Tanger Outlets will support a middle-school life-skills coffee project, Kledson said. When a board member asked how the gift happened, Kledson said a teacher found Tanger’s grant program and applied. "They have a grant program and our teacher saw it and said, I'm gonna apply to them," he said.
Under personnel items, Kledson said the district will accept the retirement of Kevin Frank, an elementary school custodian, with a planned appearance at the April board meeting so the board can acknowledge his years of service. The retirement was listed among personnel items that the board approved during the meeting’s personnel motion (agenda items 6A–6J).
Kledson also noted extracurricular developments such as potential continuation of boys volleyball to varsity if the initial season is successful. No formal votes on program continuation were taken during the meeting; the items were informational or part of routine personnel and consent actions that passed on voice votes.
