Bath County Board approves draft budget, revives planning committee, adopts calendar and launches superintendent search

Board motions passed unanimously or by voice vote on a set of items that included approving consent items 11(a)–11(m); renewing the audit contract; authorizing two buses' capital-fund payments; approving the FY25 draft budget; reconvening the local planning committee to consider changing a middle-school project from new construction to renovation so the district can access $7,000,000 from the School Construction Commission; approving a $500.25 change order for a masonry metal cap (PR‑24) on the BG‑22‑520 Layec project; and adopting the 2025–26 school calendar on second reading.
The board also completed leadership appointments for 2025: Barbara Raiser was appointed board chair; Carla Bowling was appointed co-chair; Mr. Evans was appointed board secretary through June 30, 2025; and Britney Combs was appointed board treasurer. All of those appointments were approved by voice vote.
In executive session the board voted to establish a superintendent search screening committee and took several related actions when it reconvened in open session. The board approved a motion to form the screening committee, appointed a board representative to serve on the committee, approved committee procedures and a timeline, approved the screening criteria, authorized a superintendent vacancy advertisement, and designated a mailing address for applications. The motions recorded in open session included appointing Eric (board member) as the board representative on the screening committee and appointing board secretaries Karen Ratliff and Britney Combs to oversee search procedures; the board also approved routing applications to PO Box 21, Salt Lick, Kentucky 40371, in care of Eric (as recorded in the minutes).
Other consent items approved included travel for Bath County High School to Fort Walton, Florida (February 28–March 2, 2025) for a spring training trip and state mock-trial competition; approval of two grants (a Kentucky Counts grant for $70,000 as described in the packet and an AED grant to buy AEDs at about $2,000 each); a memorandum of agreement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services for the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program; and surplus of four bus camera systems at $100 each ($400 total).
