Jail and sheriff report: detention population, fees and service stats presented to Russell County fiscal court

The Russell County detention center reported a population of 94 during the fiscal court meeting, and court members accepted the detention and sheriff reports and approved routine related motions.

The detention center report listed line-item receipts such as prescription and nurse-visit charges and inmate-housing reimbursements. The report summarized various fees and transfers, with one line stating a total transfer or sum of $238,976.32. The court heard the booking-fee amount of $1,927.50, a transport fee claim of $390.77, and a state inmate-housing figure of $41,701.02 as read into the record. Staff also reported three and a half hours of overtime for the jail.

Sheriff or law-enforcement statistics read to the court included 505 calls for service, 47 arrests, 95 traffic stops, 19 non-injury accidents, seven injury accidents, 31 deputy requests, 22 suspicious-person complaints, 13 welfare checks and 77 prisoner transports for a total of 1,763 miles driven. The office reported two concealed-carry permit issuances and reported property-tax collections totaling $897,530.43 for Dec. 24 as read into the record.

Magistrates made and seconded a motion to accept the detention report and then voted to approve it. The court also approved appointment of county employees under KRS 67.7107 and approved payment to the county's volunteer fire departments and rescue squad as budgeted.

Magistrates asked follow-up questions about routine matters and accepted the reports as part of the meeting record. The clerk recorded the motions and voice votes in the minutes.
