Centennial School District 28J on Wednesday presented a draft "Profile of a Graduate" that lays out six competencies the district plans to develop across pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, district presenters said.
The district said the profile — developed with students, parents and family members, staff and community partners during design sessions this winter — identifies six dynamic elements: being academically prepared; passionate and purposeful; caring for self; caring for community; inquisitive and innovative; and future ready.
District presenters said the profile is intended to guide a forthcoming teaching and learning roadmap that will direct curriculum and instructional planning. The district said it will present a comprehensive phase plan to the district community once the roadmap is finalized and that updates will be posted at csd28j.org/graduateprofile.
According to the presentation, "academically prepared" emphasizes reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, communicating using multiple modes and languages, and using appropriate tools and strategies. "Passionate and purposeful" focuses on self-reflection, goal-setting and action planning. "Care for self" centers on prioritizing health and wellness and cultivating positive relationships. "Care for community" stresses honoring cultural identities, responsible civic engagement and advocating for social and racial justice. "Inquisitive and innovative" highlights curiosity, flexible thinking and problem solving. "Future ready" addresses decision-making, life-navigation skills and preparation for post‑school plans.
Presenters characterized the work as a districtwide planning step and said the design sessions this winter were an early stage in developing the full implementation roadmap. The presentation did not specify implementation timelines, budget amounts, or required board actions; those details are to be provided in the forthcoming phase plan, the district said.
