Littleton council appoints Joel Zink to fill at-large vacancy

The Littleton City Council appointed Joel Zink to the at-large council seat vacated by Gretchen Bridal and administered the oath of office before the city clerk.

Under the city charter, council must appoint a qualified resident within 30 days of a vacancy. Council members said staff reviewed 21 applications and invited seven finalists for in-person interviews; the remaining six council members interviewed candidates on Jan. 9 and selected Zink to serve the remainder of the term expiring in November 2025.

Mayor Pro Tem Barr explained the appointment process before asking for a motion. Council member Driscoll moved to appoint Joel Zink; Council member Peters seconded the motion. The council recorded the vote as five in favor and the motion carried. City Clerk Pauline then administered the oath of office.

After taking the oath, Zink thanked the council, his family and colleagues at the District Attorney’s Office. He said he looks forward to serving the community, encouraged residents to reach out, and noted his contact information will be posted on the City of Littleton website.

City staff and council members noted the size and quality of the applicant pool and encouraged other applicants to consider future service on council or city boards and commissions. Council members described the interview process as difficult because of the number of qualified applicants.

No additional formal actions were taken as part of the appointment beyond the motion and oath of office.

The council reconvened for a new roll call after the swearing-in, at which time Zink joined other council members for the meeting’s remaining business.
