During public updates at the Jan. 21 Pueblo City Council work session, Councilor Flores asked what the city plans to do about a burned and derelict building behind a restaurant near Northern Avenue and Route. City staff responded that the property has been condemned and that a recorded notice and order triggered a city referral after the owner did not respond.
City staff said the owner of the property was deceased and that there was no insurance on the building. Because of repeated fires and the condition of the structure, staff said the abatement will require open‑air procedures and monitoring by environmental services. The referral and initial environmental and historical analyses began in November, staff said, and those clearances are required before abatement work can start.
Councilor Flores and other councilors noted interest in potential future use of the site, including whether it could become parking or be redeveloped. City staff said no final redevelopment plan has been set and that the city will handle the site as part of its demolition and abatement projects.
Councilor Latino noted the property owner family name and nearby business interest; staff said they are aware of other properties owned by the family in the area. No formal action or vote occurred at the meeting; staff described process steps and timing for environmental and historical reviews prior to abatement.
