Treasurer Rachel Hartland told the Hopkins School Board on Jan. 14 that the district is facing budget uncertainty driven by higher transportation costs, outstanding contract negotiations with employee groups and the effect of recent legislative mandates that lack permanent funding.
Hartland said districts across Minnesota are experiencing similar pressure and that Hopkins will not know its final state funding allocation until the state budget process concludes in May. She told the board that several federal and state developments contributed to uncertainty and that administrative and staff time required to implement policy changes also carries a cost.
