Hopkins School Board re-elects officers and finalizes committee assignments

At its Jan. 14 meeting the Hopkins School Board reappointed its chair, vice chair, treasurer and clerk by voice vote and confirmed committee assignments discussed at an earlier workshop, including student representative placements on district and external committees.
Shannon Andreessen was re-elected board chair and Jason Ross was re-elected vice chair as the Hopkins School Board finalized officer seats and committee assignments at its Jan. 14 meeting.
The reappointments came after a workshop earlier that evening in which board members and student board representatives discussed who would serve on district committees and several external bodies, including the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) and the Minnesota State High School League representative role. The board also reviewed student-board representative placements on school- and city-level advisory committees and district steering groups.
The board held voice votes to confirm officers. Directors spoke in support of incumbent officers’ continuity and experience. Rachel Hartland accepted reappointment as treasurer and Kai Thompson accepted reappointment as clerk. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes; the chair called for a voice vote and members responded in the affirmative.
Committee assignments were discussed in detail at the workshop prior to the meeting. Highlights included: - AMSD: Jason Ross and Rachel Hartland will remain the district’s AMSD representatives; Brooke Roper volunteered to serve as an alternate and student board representatives indicated they would attend when possible. - Intermediate District 287: Jason Ross indicated he wished to continue as the district’s representative; an alternate was volunteered to gain experience for future service. - City board steering committee: student board representatives and board members discussed attendance and frequency; several student reps volunteered to serve or be alternates. - Citizens Financial Advisory Committee (CFACC): Rachel Hartland and Ximing (Ximing) Zhao remain district representatives; board members discussed student involvement and outreach to identify interested students.
Board members and student board representatives also confirmed assignments or alternates for other standing committees including Schools and Communities in Partnership/Community Education Advisory Committee, Educational Services Advisory Committee, Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), monitoring and audit committees, the Legislative Action Coalition (LAC), visioning and strategic planning, human resources, and safety and security.
The board chair said the full list of committee assignments would be posted on the district website under the school board page.
Board members emphasized continuity for committees that require long-term engagement (for example the LAC and the AMSD) and noted student representatives will continue to play a role on multiple committees.
The board made no changes to committee charters at the meeting; assignments will run through January 2026 unless otherwise changed.
