Casa Grande Union High School District board moves March meeting, approves donations and consent items

The Casa Grande Union High School District Governing Board voted on routine business and scheduling at its Feb. 11 meeting, approving the meeting agenda and prior minutes, accepting multiple donations to district programs and moving the regularly scheduled March board meeting from March 10 to March 3.

The board first adopted the meeting agenda as presented and accepted the minutes of the Jan. 13 meeting. Both measures were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

The board approved a long list of community donations to athletics, programs and classrooms. Noted gifts included $4,500 to Vista Grande Junior ROTC from Ford Civic of Tennessee LLC, a $500 grant to the Casa Grande Union robotics team from Nissan North America, a baby grand piano valued at about $4,000 donated to the district choir, and multiple smaller cash and in-kind donations to athletic teams and CTE programs. The superintendent recommended approval and the board approved the donations in a single motion.

The board also unanimously approved a recommendation to move its March meeting from March 10 (the first day of spring break) to March 3 to allow for an executive session to discuss proposed boundary agreements involving a neighboring elementary district and Peoria (the district name was described in the meeting as part of a pending negotiation). Board attorney availability was cited as a reason to reschedule.

Finally, the board approved the consent agenda in a single motion. During the roll call for the consent agenda, one board member recorded a “no” vote while the remainder voted yes; the motion carried.

No new ordinances, contracts or formal policy adoptions requiring additional public hearings were introduced during the meeting.
