Pharr receives Texas Municipal League “Road Ready” certificate; city communications lists year-end events

The Pharr City Commission accepted a certificate from the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool recognizing the city’s completion of the Road Ready program and heard a summary of year-end community events from the city communications office.
Veronica Ramirez, Pharr human resources director, accepted the plaque and credited city departments and staff for completing all Road Ready digital badges required by the program. "This certifies that the city of Pharr has achieved all road ready badges demonstrating a commitment to employee safety and fulfilling the requirements of the Texas Municipal League intergovernmental risk pool loss prevention program," Ramirez said. She said the program was created during the pandemic to provide safety resources and that the city was one of only two communities south of San Antonio to finish all badges.
Johnny Vera, a representative of the Texas Municipal League intergovernmental risk pool in attendance, presented the certificate. Ramirez named staff who helped lead the initiative, including Anandita Roy and Maggie, and thanked multiple departments — public utilities, public works, parks, police and fire — for supporting trainings and events that earned the badges.
After the certificate presentation, Yudi Gonzalez of the Office of City Communications reviewed recent and upcoming events. Gonzalez recapped a successful winter wonderland and downtown block party and promoted a New Year’s Eve ball drop in downtown Pharr on Dec. 31 featuring 300 drones, lasers, fireworks and musical performers including La Casa Tera and the Spazmatics; doors open at 7:30 p.m. The presentation noted the event is free and will be live-streamed on the city’s social media platforms.
Gonzalez also listed other seasonal community events: a large tamalada (free to the public) starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, and a concurrent Christmas night at the library with photos, snacks and reading time from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Officials acknowledged the overlap and said they would consider scheduling adjustments to avoid splitting attendance.
The certificate and events listing were presented during the city manager’s report; no separate budget or ordinance action was taken during the presentations.
