Perryton ISD trustees adopt HB 3 goals, approve turf payment and auditorium lighting; several items pass unanimously

District staff reported the district had met the goals previously established in 2019 and 2024 and proposed targets for the period from February 2025 through February 2029. Key targets presented by staff included a baseline of 49% of third graders meeting the reading “meets” level in the most recent STAR data, a 2025 target of 52% and a 2029 target of 64% for reading. For third-grade math, staff reported a baseline around 36% and proposed a 2025 target of about 40% and a longer-term aim of approximately 60% by 2029. Trustees approved the HB 3 goals as presented, recorded 7-0. The district also reported submitting CCMR (College, Career and Military Readiness) data to the state and set a target moving from about 77% to 93% by 2029.
Turf payment and early resignation incentive Trustees authorized payment for the new AstroTurf installation already underway and recorded the motion as carrying 7-0. The board also approved an early resignation incentive program for staff — a cash incentive for employees who submit resignations early to help the district with hiring and staffing planning — and approved the plan for the 2024–25 school year by a 7-0 vote.
Junior High auditorium lighting The board approved purchase and installation of additional house lights for the junior high auditorium at a base project budget of $32,387. The motion to approve the base project budget for lighting passed 5-2. Staff told trustees the lights would make the auditorium bright enough for public speakers and community events and that the district had previously solicited bids but received no local responses; staff described options for fixture style, dimming and asbestos testing considerations during installation planning.
Next steps Board members directed staff to continue with budgeting and vendor solicitation where required and to report back on schedule and any necessary budget amendments. The meeting concluded with a scheduled closed session for the superintendent evaluation under Texas Government Code §551.074.
