Education division reports hiring, site visits and new psychiatric‑technician program in review

Judith McLeod, supervising nursing education consultant, told the board the education division added a new nursing education consultant, Dr. Clarissa Swanson, and completed 13 on‑site visits and three remote visits in the last quarter. McLeod said the NECs are changing how they report statistics to the board so that future packets will distinguish visits by type (continuing approval, complaint, remote) and will include the kinds of violations found.
McLeod reported 47 schools on the list for new programs and 12 schools currently in process. She said the education division is working with IV blood‑withdrawal program updates and the occupational analysis for psychiatric technicians; the occupational analysis was expected to be distributed in March and will include an additional question requested by board members about the psychiatric‑technician title.
During public comment, Dr. Andrew Sanchez asked where a newly proposed psychiatric‑technician program would be located; McLeod and the NECs responded that the new psychiatric‑technician program referenced is at College of the Redwoods. Program representatives from Summit College, Integrity College of Health and Cypress College appeared or were unmuted online to thank NECs for assistance and to describe local circumstances. Integrity College representatives described regional impacts from a nearby wildfire and said required reports were submitted while site visits were delayed due to safety concerns.
The NEC recommendations for Summit College (admit 30 students), Integrity College (return to full approval) and Cypress College (return to full continued approval for four years) were moved and approved by roll call (see 'Votes at a glance' article for vote record). McLeod said the division is updating forms and the website and preparing additional guidance related to psychiatric‑technician work and the occupational analysis.
