Easton Public Schools to accept retirements of multiple longtime staff members

The Easton School Committee on Jan. 9 accepted retirement notices and publicly recognized several longtime staff members whose retirements will take effect June 30, 2025.
Dr. Cabral read a notice for Marie Hasson, a school nurse at Blanche Ames Elementary School who has served in Easton for 21 years. The letter read at the meeting said Hasson's last day will be June 30, 2025, and thanked her for service across multiple elementary buildings.
"It has been an honor to serve as a school nurse at Blanche Ames Elementary School...for the past 21 years," the letter read, which committee members described as reflecting a long record of service. Committee members noted Hasson's role in managing increasingly complex medical needs among younger students and praised her relationships with families.
The committee also recognized a special-education teacher who addressed the committee in person and summarized a 30-year career. In a statement at the podium, Susan Sall described mentoring paraprofessionals and presenting district professional development; in her letter she wrote, "Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times." Committee members thanked her for leadership in special education and mentoring new teachers.
Patricia (Pat) Gay, a third-grade teacher in Easton since the 1990s, also submitted a notice of retirement effective June 30, 2025. Her letter recounted a late-career path from paraprofessional to classroom teacher and said she looks forward to "more time with family, extra chances for beach walks and Maine adventures." Committee members praised Gay's classroom management and calm demeanor.
Each retirement was presented and followed by brief remarks from committee members and staff. Motions to accept the retirement notices were made and approved by voice vote or roll call as recorded at the meeting. No personnel replacements or hiring actions were taken at the Jan. 9 meeting; administrators said recruitment for needed positions would proceed through the district's normal personnel processes.
Committee members and staff emphasized the experience the district will lose and congratulated each retiree on their service.
