The downtown commission reviewed the concept earlier the same day and was reported to be supportive.
Applicant representatives said they studied downtown precedents and that the proposed signs are intended to be proportional to the building and legible from multiple vantage points. Commissioners generally expressed support, noting historic precedents for rooftop signage in comparable eras and emphasizing that final approval should hinge on detailed fabrication plans and light intensity controls. One commissioner proposed adding a third horizontal rail to better harmonize the two neighboring signs; commissioners also requested documentation showing the sign mount and structure, and that brightness be dimmable for nighttime conditions.
A motion to approve the concept with the requested additions carried. The commission asked staff to require final fabrication drawings, structural mounting details and specifications demonstrating dimmable LED control before issuing final approval for installed signage.
