LTAC quality assurance subcommittee circulates exemplars and members discuss hiring instructional-design staff

The LTAC quality assurance subcommittee reported near-complete exemplars for IPDE submissions and members used a work-group session to discuss hiring and staffing approaches for instructional design and digital-learning support roles.
The QA subcommittee said it has prepared example evidence for nine of 10 IPDE items and is finalizing a multiyear IT plan exemplar. Committee members noted the need for alignment between exemplars and reviewer expectations and asked that reviewers and QA staff meet to calibrate language and examples.
Members discussed workforce challenges recruiting instructional designers and digital-learning staff. Strategies described included offering flexible or hybrid positions to broaden applicant pools, recruiting nationally (some institutions reported hires from out of state), sponsoring internships or student positions to grow internal talent pipelines, and cautious use of consulting firms for faculty-facing curriculum development because those roles often rely on long-term relationships between designers and faculty.
Several members said community colleges are particularly constrained on salary and hiring capacity and recommended collaboration, shared-services procurement and staff-development pipelines as potential mitigations.
Ending: The QA subcommittee will share the exemplar document with THECB staff and LTAC reviewers after additional calibration; members volunteered to meet after the April 10 operations review to align exemplars with reviewer practice.
