Student board recap: athletics, clubs and upcoming events at Timberlane Regional School District

Abby, the Timberlane Regional School District student board representative, presented a district update highlighting recent student activities and upcoming events.

She reported that the girls basketball team advanced to the first round of the playoffs before losing to Pinkerton and that the boys wrestling team won a state title. The cheer team advanced to its first state tournament. Abby gave special recognition to sophomore Danielle Bates for placing third at the New England meet and to a former Division I state champion who set the girls high jump record at 5 feet 5 inches.

Abby noted other athletic and club activity: runners who performed well at a recent meet; the Outdoor Adventure Clubvisited Metrorock in Newburyport for indoor climbing and completed a 3.5-mile snowshoe trip at Pawtucket Way State Park; Mr. Goddardran a jump-rope club after school and a "Lets Get Moving" club met before school; and more than 90 students participated in the ski club this year. Coed volleyball is set to begin. She also thanked students and staff involved in a dodgeball tournament at Danville School that included participants from the four towns; the Danville staff team won the staff contest and Atkinson won the student trophy.

On schoolwide programs and events, Abby said kindergarten through second grade celebrated the 100th day of school with a read-a-thon that raised about $4,321 for schools in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene. Sandown North will start a Healthy Heart Schoolwide Challenge supporting the American Heart Association and is launching a "One School, One Book" reading event incorporating local businesses. Sandown Central plans a kindergarten information night on March 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. The Project Hope fashion show is scheduled for this Saturday with doors at 5 p.m. The junior class (2026) is planning a semi-formal dance on March 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the TRHS cafeteria and a spring craft fair on April 5.

Abby also reported that the SATs for juniors are scheduled for early April and that the Youth Risk Behavior Survey will be administered at the high school during class time; she said the survey will take a little less than 45 minutes and noted prior board discussion of the survey by "Mr. Lena." A professional development day was mentioned as upcoming. She closed by inviting the community to district sites and social media for more information and encouraging attendance at events.
