At the March 7 meeting the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Occupational Therapy Advisory Committee discussed replacement of three members who will leave the committee at the end of 2025 and agreed to recruit applicants with specified specialties and geographic representation.
Committee chair Ingrid Frank said the departing members are Kelly (specialty: developmental disabilities, Shreveport), Kimberly (sensory integration/pediatrics, Lake Charles) and Frank herself (education, New Orleans). The committee identified priorities for new members as pediatrics, developmental disabilities, assistive technology and higher education and asked staff to circulate an application notice to the profession.
"It looks like we to me, it looks like we need to find somebody with pediatric experience because nobody else, currently on here has anything to do with pediatrics. So I think that would be a priority," Frank said.
Committee members discussed geographic balance and encouraged committee members to recruit candidates directly and via a broad email blast to OTs and OTAs in the state. Doctor Vann and staff said they would send applications to committee members and that LSBME staff would also send a statewide notice. The committee discussed an application timeline with an August 31 submission deadline to allow review before a September meeting.
Committee members also asked staff to confirm eligibility rules for applicants who previously served full terms; LSBME counsel said she would check and report back. "I'd have to ask my legal eagles about that one," Patricia Wilton said when asked whether a candidate who had served six full terms could reapply.
Staff said the advisory committee sets meeting frequency (quarterly to monthly) and that meetings are currently held via Zoom around 10 a.m., which the committee agreed should be added to recruitment materials so candidates can assess their availability.
The committee tasked staff with editing an earlier recruitment email, coordinating outreach with the Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association, and returning with a draft notice for distribution.
