Board discussion said the proposed commission would have authority to manage Pioneer cemeteries and to establish guidelines and minimum maintenance standards. County staff and trustees raised that existing township trustees currently maintain many cemeteries and that the county would not automatically add funding to cover any additional cemeteries taken on by the commission.
Supervisors directed staff (Brandy) to publish the required notices. The board moved and passed the separate resolutions for each ordinance; the transcript names the resolutions as Resolution 2025-3-7 and Resolution 2025-3-7A and records a publication scheduling around April 11.
Board members emphasized that the proposed changes are intended primarily to clarify legal language and the commission's role; they repeatedly said that existing arrangements should remain in place unless the commission chooses otherwise. The board also noted that the commission would decide whether to assume control of individual cemeteries and that any change in funding would need separate consideration.
