ReachOut staff report community programs, leadership academy and CalVIP work to Jurupa Valley council

Mayra Mixto Chavez, introduced as the new director of Community Health Equity and Wellness at REACHOW, briefed the Jurupa Valley City Council on recent activities and upcoming programs on March 6.
Mixto Chavez told the council the department recently reorganized teams and provided attendance numbers for recent events: total outreach reach of 2,836 residents (October–December period included in the report) and 1,654 attendees at Dia de los Muertos. She described programs run by “Leaders in Action” (adult leadership academy and workshops) and “Hurpa Youth United” (youth programming), noting workshops on elder care, emotional/social-emotional workshops, equine therapy exposure, tree lighting involvement and other community events.
Staff reported a March 13 start for a 10-week Leadership Academy consisting of weekly two-hour sessions; the department is also scheduling family-friendly “paint and sip” and a youth self-defense workshop on March 25 with limited registration. Mixto Chavez listed recent partners who presented at a March 4 water-resources workshop: Laura Rotten from Western Municipal Water District, Chris Burch from Jurupa Community Services District, and Brian Lutoso from Rubidoux Community Services District.
On CalVIP (California Violence Intervention and Prevention) funding, Mixto Chavez said the program will run through the end of the year and staff are drafting an action plan that reflects focus areas identified in a series of public meetings; she said 13 town halls were conducted, with the most recent on Jan. 29. Councilmembers requested photos and further information about community events; staff said they can provide them.
Council thanked staff for event turnout and encouraged sharing materials that document program activities and partnerships.
