Costa Mesa Playhouse board reintroduces theater ahead of 60th season

Board members from the Costa Mesa Playhouse told the Arts Commission that the Playhouse will open its sixtieth season this summer and sought to reconnect with the commission and city staff.
Angel Correa, identifying himself as a current board member of the Costa Mesa Playhouse, introduced artistic director Peter Crater and managing director Mia Josomovic and reviewed the theater’s history. Correa said the Playhouse opened its first show on June 24, 1965, and has staged more than 230 productions. He noted the Playhouse building is currently part of the Newport‑Mesa Unified School District property and thanked the district for that relationship.
The Playhouse requested an opportunity to meet with the commission and staff to show the space and discuss future coordination of events and activities; board representatives offered comp tickets and invited commissioners to upcoming productions, including Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya later this month.
The remarks occurred during the meeting’s public-comment period; commissioners acknowledged the Playhouse’s long history and thanked the speakers for reintroducing the organization to the commission.
