Montgomery Public Schools robotics program continues after Hyundai grant; district funds second year

Speakers at the March 6 special meeting described Montgomery Public Schools’ robotics program, saying it began with a Hyundai grant and is now funded by the district in its second year.
"So the the robotics program for Montgomery Public Schools started as a grant through Hyundai, and we are from under the grant now. This is our second year, being funded through the school district, but they continue to be our partner and help sponsor the event with along with Auburn score," a program representative said during public comments. The speaker said robotics teams compete at district meets; winning teams at the district level advance to the state competition, which the speaker said the district will host in Auburn at the end of the month.
A program speaker described educational benefits: "I think that this is a great opportunity for us to skill build, and also get students, working with technology. We obviously know that in the industries that they'll be working for will be all about collaboration and technology." Students also described preparing through alliance practice, game strategy and robot troubleshooting ahead of regional competition.
The board received these comments in the public portion of the meeting; no board action on the robotics program was recorded in the transcript.
