City manager highlights Caltrans safety grant, college grant request and upcoming park construction

Gallardo said the city received a $2.9 million Caltrans Local Road Safety Program grant to construct medians (described as camellones) along E Street between Fairway Drive and 10th Street, a corridor of nearly 3.5 miles. Staff said the medians are designed to improve pedestrian and traffic safety.
Gallardo also reported that San Bernardino Valley College has applied for a $34 million grant to build an applied technology building to support automotive technology training and career pathways. The transcript identified the request as a $34 million grant application submitted by the college.
Staff described a major renovation project at Lake Seconbe (park name as presented in the meeting), with the park scheduled to close for about one year starting Monday, March 13, for a project estimated at $13.8 million that will include reconstruction and renovation of park facilities and a gazebo.
Gallardo said he has met with key community and institutional leaders — including the college president, a county supervisor and the school district superintendent — to build partnerships for city initiatives and that the city is conducting a search for a permanent city manager in coordination with an outside recruiter.
