Jeff Tech students present career-technical programs to board in recognition of CTE Month

Five students and a Jeff Tech supervisor addressed the Punxsutawney Area School District board to highlight the district's career and technical education programs during CTE Month.
Jenna Gaston, supervisor of student and instructional services at Jeff Tech, introduced five students who described their classes and certifications. An eleventh-grade automotive student demonstrated a scan tool and said the device reads vehicle diagnostic codes to help identify faults. A diesel student described co-op employment where he diagnoses and services diesel trucks and outlined the range of vehicles covered in his training. An HVAC student said he holds a universal EPA refrigerant card and OSHA 10 certification and described the breadth of refrigerant types and safety training. An advanced manufacturing (machining) student displayed a parallel clamp he had machined and described learning CNC operation and mill skills, and a digital media arts student brought a first-place SkillsUSA district-winning pin design and described plans to launch a small design business.
Gaston thanked the board for supporting career-technical education in the region. Board members congratulated the students and encouraged them to remain involved in co-op and competition opportunities.
The presentation was informational; the board did not take action on program funding or curriculum during the meeting.
