District fast-tracks literacy adoption for grades 3-5; pilots two programs after publisher changes

District curriculum staff told the board that an accelerated literacy-adoption process for grades 3 through 5 is underway because Pearsons ReadyGen program is no longer available after the publisher was purchased and the buyer discontinued the product line.
Staff said they had stockpiled ReadyGen materials but, with rising enrollment and limited print availability, materials would not be sufficient for all students next year. The district screened materials from six companies and brought the top two — Amplify and Savvas — forward for pilot testing.
To expedite selection, teachers will pilot both programs in a compressed schedule beginning after spring break. Staff described a three-week pilot (shorter than the districts typical six-week pilot) and said each building that participates will pilot both programs at different grade levels so teachers can compare both in the same environment.
Curriculum staff told the board they will report pilot findings to the district advisory team in April and present a recommendation to the board in May. If the board approves a program following the typical adoption timeline, staff will proceed with purchasing and distribution so students have materials next year.
