Southeast Polk unveils redesigned district website with accessibility features

Jeanne, the districts communications lead, showed the board a newly launched Southeast Polk district website and described features designed to improve access and usability.
The site went live Monday and the district selected a local developer, WebSpec of Urbandale, after reviewing multiple vendors, Jeanne said. She noted WebSpec has experience building ADA-compliant sites for the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and said district staff prioritized accessibility during the design.
Jeanne described quick links for frequently used pages (menus, calendars, the campus portal), a translate button to convert the entire site into families home languages, and "sticky" quick links that remain visible as users scroll. She also highlighted work to improve the staff directory and activity calendars so those resources are current and easier to find.
The presentation noted an internal website committee worked with administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents and community members during development. Jeanne said the launch is phase one and the district will continue fine-tuning the site and expand the activities pages in phase two.
Board members welcomed the redesign and praised the sites organization and translate capability. Jeanne also identified one local graduate, Andrea Bigelow (formerly Andrea Walker, Southeast Polk class of 2017), as the projects graphic artist.
Jeanne said staff will continue addressing bugs and plans additional enhancements to highlight student and team achievements.
