Commissioners discussed planning for a Multicultural Festival slated for September, volunteer recruitment and an inquiry from a prospective commission applicant at the March 6 meeting.
A commissioner said she and another member would lead the Multicultural Festival task group and expect to recruit six or seven performances for the September event. Organizers said they planned to contact cultural groups that participated in other local festivals and to coordinate food trucks similarly to Juneteenth logistics. Commissioners asked that promotional materials and a flyer be ready to distribute shortly after the city’s Star-Spangled Heights event in June.
Staff said Sarah Foresight is developing a citywide volunteer signup form; staff expect that form to be available before Juneteenth so volunteers can register for events. Commissioners requested support from city communications for a “save-the-date” push once the Star-Spangled Heights schedule is finalized.
On appointments, staff reported that Miss Honaker (alternate spellings in the transcript) is expected to join the commission once confirmed by the city council. Staff also said a young woman from Huber Heights City Schools had emailed expressing interest; commissioners said they would follow up. No formal interview or application decisions were made at the March 6 meeting.
Commissioners asked staff to ensure open-seat postings, application timelines and interview schedules are communicated to commission members as openings are published.
