Affordable Housing Fund panel approves multiple home-repair grants, sets process to address 60-plus backlog

The Affordable Housing Fund Advisory Committee on Jan. 14 approved funding for multiple owner-occupied home repairs and discussed how to process roughly 60 remaining applications submitted during last year—s application cycle.

Committee members voted to approve five repair projects recommended in staff reports, including a $25,000 maximum grant for one property that remains contingent on the homeowner—s agreement to a $4,240 loan obligation. The committee separately approved a $25,000 grant for 211 Adams and added a $690 HVAC upgrade option to improve system efficiency.

The measures voted on were for owner-occupied repairs. Committee staff told members that contractors are paid directly by the city rather than receiving funds through homeowners. Staff also summarized the recent competitive-bid process for the five projects; the city received multiple bids but not always the three bids the committee prefers because many contractors did not respond to the fixed bid date required by state bidding rules.
