Evansville council ratifies two Teamsters contracts covering city and METS employees

The Evansville Common Council on Monday adopted two resolutions ratifying collective bargaining agreements between the city and Teamsters locals covering city employees and Metropolitan Evansville Transit System workers.
The council unanimously approved Resolution C20 25-02, described at the meeting as an agreement between the city of Evansville and the Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers Local 215 covering Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027. The body then approved Resolution C20 25-03, described as an agreement between the city, Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) and Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers Local 25215 (transcript numeric formatting), on the same term. Both votes were recorded as 9 ayes, 0 nays.
Union representative Chuck, appearing before the council to speak on the agreements, said the membership had ratified the tentative agreements and thanked the council and staff for their work. “Our members have ratified these 2 contracts we have in front of you tonight,” Chuck said at the microphone. He emphasized the role of rank-and-file workers in city services, citing street maintenance and water and sewer crews working in freezing conditions.
Council members responded with public thanks to union members and city employees. Council President Trotman and several councilors praised the essential work of the employees represented by the contracts and thanked Chuck for his years of service and negotiation.
Both resolutions were moved, seconded and adopted by roll call without further amendment. The council did not discuss contract terms in detail on the record at this meeting.
