Surry County supervisors elect Robert Elliott chair, approve bylaws and 2025 calendar amid debates over meeting times and notice

The Surry County Board of Supervisors elected Reverend Dr. Robert Elliott as chair and chose Breon (Brian) Pierce as vice chair during its reorganizational meeting, adopted the board’s bylaws after divided votes and approved a 2025 meeting calendar with a revised February date.

The reorganizational meeting opened with nominations for chair and vice chair. After members cast their votes, “there are 3 votes for Mr. Elliott,” the meeting chair announced; the board then selected Elliott as chairman for 2025. A subsequent roll-call vote selected Pierce as vice chair for the year.
