Members of the Town of Wayne hiring committee briefed the Select Board Jan. 7 on a year-long effort to produce a job description, candidate profile and posting for the town manager position.
The committee — whose membership the board identified as Betsy Clark, MT Clark, Theresa Kershner, Carol Ad, Ken Spaulding and Ford Stephenson, with select board representatives Mary Anne Butak and Hazel Stevenson — told the board it completed a job description, candidate attributes and posting plan. Committee members said the posting will go live within days and remain open approximately one month, or longer if necessary.
Committee members and board members described the documents as usable for recruitment, evaluation matrices and contract development. The committee said it has developed interview questions and a recommended interview script and evaluation matrix, and expects to finalize those at an upcoming meeting; the committee said interviews will likely be held in executive session when appropriate.
A committee member said the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) will assist with posting; the committee also discussed broader outreach, including LinkedIn or other social platforms, and noted town staff will post job materials on the town website. The committee said one document (an affirmation) is pending legal review; once that review is complete, the posting will proceed.
Committee members and several residents thanked the group for its work. The board and committee discussed having public or in-person interview formats and whether the full board or a representative panel should conduct interviews to avoid public-meeting conflicts.
Board members asked the committee to provide interview questions and the evaluation matrix at the next meeting; the committee said it has a meeting scheduled later in the week to finalize remaining materials.
