Bluff interns brief council on GIS, communications and web projects

Three town interns — two technical and one communications — presented progress on GIS mapping, cemetery plot work, communications materials for the exterior lighting ordinance and a website migration to a .gov address.
Council heard a progress briefing from three Bluff interns who are supporting roads, communications and IT projects during an eight‑week program.
Thomas Hayden, a technical support intern working with the roads department, said he created a GIS foundation in DiamondMaps to record road maintenance segments, signs, culverts and cattle guards and will map cemetery plots using a handheld GPS. "I started from scratch in DiamondMax. There was nothing in there," Nelson said in recognition of the work.
Sam Bouchard, the other technical intern, said he is working on migrating the town website to a .gov address, updating housing address records and improving overall usability for residents.
Josie Law, the community engagement and communications intern, showed draft materials designed to accompany Bluff’s dark‑sky work: a resident/business brochure explaining the exterior lighting ordinance, an informational kiosk sign for visitors and a visual insert about fully shielded fixtures. She described possible programs to recognize businesses that adopt dark‑sky‑friendly lighting.
Councilmembers praised the interns’ work and asked for another update toward the end of the summer when deliverables are more complete.
