Bicknell school board and council report revised site plan, address change and parking steps for new elementary

Bicknell, UT — The Bicknell Town Council received an update from a school board representative at its June 5 meeting on changes to the new elementary school site plan that affect setbacks, parking and construction timing.
A school board representative said the mechanical building was moved on the north end of the planned elementary to create a 24‑foot clearance and allow the project to meet corner measurements and setbacks. To make the setbacks work the district will legally change the building’s address to the north side; a county courthouse contact will handle that change, the representative said.
The district told the council it expects to begin demolition work soon and that a contractor, Dave Lamino, is scheduled to start Monday. The district reported high bids on some work and said it will continue to refine costs and “sharpen our pencil” on remaining items. Officials described plans to use existing lots for temporary and longer‑term parking and to convert the old high‑school site and other parcels into additional parking and employee access once construction finishes.
On timing, the school representative said the district is no longer aiming to open this August and is targeting a later opening — repeatedly referred to during the meeting as fall 2027 — while acknowledging that dates have shifted in previous planning discussions. The representative said the county may seek to purchase some facilities (for example a courthouse use was discussed), but those county discussions are separate and not yet finalized.
How this matters: The address change and site adjustments are intended to comply with state setback rules and permit the larger building footprint the county and the community requested. Council members asked the school to continue coordinating on sidewalk and safety improvements near the post office and crossing guard locations.
