Residents press Bicknell council to remove collapsed culvert and repair sidewalk near post office

Bicknell, UT — Residents raised repeated flooding and a safety hazard at the front entrance of the Bicknell post office during public comment at the June 5 Bicknell Town Council meeting, asking the town to remove a collapsed culvert and repair a broken sidewalk.
Residents Jan and Mary described standing water that runs to the post office door after periods of high water, and showed photos to council members. They said a collapsed pipe and multiple holes in a curb/culvert on the block channel stormwater toward the post office and that the broken curb is a tripping hazard for older residents and for the handicap access area.
Council members and residents discussed options including removing the culvert, sandbagging temporarily, and getting bids to repair the sidewalk. Council members said they did not believe permission would be required to remove the collapsed culvert and that removing it would allow water to flow through the area rather than back up near the post office. The council said it would “take care of that pipe” and that sidewalk repairs would be bid out to see available costs.
Council members also noted the town is exploring whether elementary‑school sidewalk work or a grant related to the new elementary school could help fund pedestrian improvements at that block and the post office crossing area.
The council did not record a formal vote on the culvert removal during the meeting; members described the plan as a direction to staff and to obtain bids for the sidewalk work and to remove the collapsed culvert.
