Board approves video system, Stryker endoscopy systems, hangar leases and equipment leases; surplus items to be donated or disposed

The Watertown School District authorized several procurement and lease actions and approved a surplus resolution at its meeting.

Authority to purchase: The board approved authority to purchase a video management system from Johnson Controls for $93,018.64 to allow cameras to be installed in the archway portion of campus. District staff said the purchase will come from budgeted IT funds.

Endoscopy equipment: The board approved accepting the sole qualifying bid from Stryker to purchase three endoscopy systems (model 1788) for a total of $524,590 to finish the Surgical Technology Learning Center. District staff said the funds for that purchase come from a gift from Sanford Health plus remaining state equipment funds.

Hangar and equipment leases: The board approved two hangar lease agreements with the Watertown Regional Airport for the professional fixed‑wing pilot program at $240 per month, to be paid from the program budget. The board also approved a seven‑month low‑cost lease with TransSource for a wheel loader at $1,000 per month and a no‑cost lease of a compact utility tractor from Kibble Equipment; administrators said the equipment value is about $150,000 and the program's total cost will be about $7,000.

Surplus resolution and donations: The board approved a surplus resolution declaring a variety of equipment items from aviation, med‑fire rescue, precision machining and welding beyond useful life and available for donation, disposal or sale. The board discussed donating stadium stools to AERO Ed and to the booster club to support fundraising for the new stadium; district staff said the booster club and AERO Ed intend to use donated seating as part of their fundraising commitments toward the athletic complex.

Why it matters: The purchases and leases support career and technical education programs, campus safety infrastructure and operations. The endoscopy purchase in particular was funded by external gifts and state equipment dollars.
